Canada · Humanitarian organisation
What they deliver
Funds Red Cross relief supplies, humanitarian experts and recovery work for people in Cuba affected by fuel shortages, power cuts and Hurricane Melissa.
Who receives it in Cuba
Families and communities affected by the crisis, served through the Cuban Red Cross (relief items, medical services, psychosocial support); health centres, nursing homes and schools are named as affected.
How money reaches Cuba
The Canadian Red Cross says funds support the Red Cross to deliver relief, aid recovery and build resilience, working with its local partner the Cuban Red Cross. It does not say how an individual gift is routed or which share goes to Cuba.

Checked 2026-10-29 without paying. The appeal page is on CanadaHelps (a registered Canadian charity acting as processor) and shows Donate Now, Donate Monthly and Donate Securities with amounts of $75, $150, $200 or another amount, then a Continue to Complete Donation button. The card fields are on the next step, which was not opened because that button submits a form. CanadaHelps help pages (read the same day) say it accepts Visa, Visa Debit, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay, not EFTs or cheques; that donors outside Canada can give; that all gifts are processed in Canadian dollars, so the card is charged in CAD and the card issuer converts it; and that it issues Canadian tax receipts only (check whether a Canadian receipt is usable in South Africa). The Red Cross's own pages loaded in a real browser after a short wait but the donation itself is made on CanadaHelps.

Global Health Partners
United States · Humanitarian organisation
What they deliver
Buys and ships medical equipment and supplies (recently pacemakers, surgical sutures and neonatal equipment) to Cuban public hospitals.
Who receives it in Cuba
Cuban public hospitals. The 2026 maternal and newborn initiative names two Havana maternity hospitals (Diez de Octubre and Ramón González Coro); earlier pages name the Calixto García and Juan Manuel Márquez hospitals.
How money reaches Cuba
Gifts buy the equipment or supplies, which GHP ships to Cuba. GHP says it works in partnership with Cuba's Ministry of Health, and names logistics or co-delivery partners per campaign (Global Links for sutures; MediCuba Europa and the Saving Lives Campaign for pacemakers). Its pages do not describe the banking or customs route.

Checked 2026-10-29 by reading the page without paying. The donate page embeds the GiveDirect form (donate.givedirect.org, campaign 16452). It offers one-time, monthly, quarterly and annual gifts, amounts in USD, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, UnionPay and JCB logos, and a country list that includes South Africa. Cheque to a New York address is the alternative. The page says gifts are tax-deductible within the guidelines of US law and that GiveDirect emails the receipt. This is a campaign page (sutures and neonatal appeal, year-end), so re-check it after the new year. GHP also has a general page at https://ghpartners.org/donate/, but it is not Cuba-only (it also names Nicaragua, Bolivia and El Salvador) and its text dates from about 2021, so it was not used.

mediCuba-Suisse (Swiss association, member of the mediCuba-Europe network)
Switzerland · Solidarity group
What they deliver
Funds public health projects in Cuba (surgery, paediatrics, geriatrics, training) and sends containers of donated medical material, working with Cuban hospitals and the Ministry of Public Health. It is a Swiss NGO and is separate from MEDICUBA S.A., the Cuban state import company.
Who receives it in Cuba
Named hospitals in the 2025 annual report: Faustino Pérez provincial hospital and the Eliseo Noel Camaño paediatric hospital in Matanzas, Hermanos Ameijeiras hospital in Havana (neurosurgery), the Ciego de Ávila hospital surgical department, and the Fidel Labrador García nursing home in Artemisa.
How money reaches Cuba
Its 2025 annual report lists spending per project (for example CHF 471,385 on the Matanzas hospital programme) and says six containers sent in 2025 were forwarded to Matanzas by the Cuban NGO Quisicuaba, plus one container for an Artemisa nursing home organised with the Cuban embassy in Bern. The report does not describe the bank route for money paid to Cuban partners. It says it bases its work on the Cuban Ministry of Health's priorities and the initiative of partner institutions.

Checked 2026-10-29 by reading the donate page without paying. Options on https://medicuba.ch/fr/faire-un-don: online donation by Twint (a Swiss mobile payment app, not usable from South Africa), payment slip, direct debit, and a direct transfer to a Swiss IBAN printed on the page; the page says a normal bank transfer is the cheapest route. No card form was seen. The online-donation page itself (https://medicuba.ch/fr/don-en-ligne) showed no form in the browser. The same IBAN is printed on the Zewo page. Account numbers are not copied here. Sanctions risk, from the organisation's own 2025 annual report: several foundations could not pay because their banks refused transfers naming the beneficiary mediCuba, and the report describes Swiss banks as fully aligned with US rules. A transfer from South Africa could meet the same screening; ask the bank before sending.

Before you donate
Some payment providers block or delay payments that mention Cuba. If a payment fails, try the organisation’s other payment method.
If you are a US citizen or resident, extra US rules may apply to what you can send to Cuba. Ask the organisation how it follows them before you donate.
